After the run of dance-levelling 12”s from label boss Borai, Higher Level welcomes rising talent K- 65 to the fold for a four-strong workout across the hardcore spectrum. Over the past few years Bristol-based K-65 has been forging a tough, uncompromising strain of modernist rave on labels such as Seagrave and Maison Fauna, but Break of Dawn marks one of his most complete releases to date.

Opening the record up on a moody, emotive breakbeat tip, ‘You Got Me’ fuses tightly clipped jun- gle touches with the precise punch of electro, capped off with pensive shards of synth and vocal snatches. K-65 demonstrates his ability to switch stance quickly, as ‘Break Of Dawn’ instantly displays the tougher end of his sound thanks to a bludgeoning kick dragged from the depths and the overall forbidding, drum-focused make-up of the track.

‘On The Floor’ makes a play for the fierce firepower of jungle tekno, jacking up the rave stabs and Think breaks with an urgent 4/4 rush down low, but much more than a throwback the energy bursts out of the production with a precise touch which is fast becoming K-65’s signature. Borai then hops into the B2 to deliver a stomping remix of ‘Break Of Dawn’ - a bashy, break-tickled 4/4 workout which could easily crossover between hardcore, techno and donk-toting hard house sets.
